I had the privilege of supporting my local community at the West Island’s Neighbours for Neighbours Food Drive. Alongside the co-organizers Rhonda Massad and Stephanie Koury, I had a great time collecting non-perishable food donations and winter clothing for those in need. All donations will be benefiting five West Island food banks including; West Island Mission, On Rock, John Abbott Food Bank, West Island Assistance Fund and Sainte Anne’s Food Bank.
The Neighbours for Neighbours Food Drive is a wonderful initiative that allows West Islanders to help other West Islanders in need. Although donations are needed all year long, it becomes particularly important during the winter months where those in need struggle to stay warm. Many people came by to give off their donations which ranged from food items, toiletries, clothing and money donations.
What I enjoyed the most was that this was a family event. As the younger generations see their parents donating and helping out in the community, they are influenced and will hopefully do the same when they grow up.
I’d like to thank everyone who participated in the food drive, all the volunteers, organizers, and everyone who donated!
